Earl Jay Wood

Earl Jay Wood, 73, of Batesville, departed this life on Monday, March 16, 2026. He was born on March 20, 1952, in Batesville, to Asa Wood and Ella White Wood.  Earl was a member of the Eastside Pentecostal Church in Batesville.

Earl worked for the City of Batesville for several years in the sanitation department.  He loved to ride motorcycles and enjoyed hunting.  He enjoyed bringing smiles to others and would often tell jokes just to see them smile.

His memory will live on the lives of his dear family, his wife of forty-three years, Lisa Wood, of the home: sons, David Wood, Terry (Melissa) Wood, Johnny Wood, and Brandon (Heather) Wood, all of Batesville; his daughter, Shannon (Joshua) Robertson, of Cushman; his brothers, Harry (Carol) Wood, of Batesville, and Thurman (Deborah) Wood, of Indiana; his twelve grandchildren, Liberty, Caleb, Skyla, Jay, Gracie, Summer, Kyle, Martha, Johnny, Nick, Tyler, and D. J.; great grandchildren, Clytan, Terrell Jr., and Tatiana; nieces; nephews; and friends.

Earl is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brothers, Lonnie Wood, Cecil Wood, Kenneth Wood, and Walter Wood; and his sisters, Mary McClurg, Lucille Swafford, and Murtle  Wood.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Doty Southside Funeral Service with Bro. Jack McCarroll officiating. 

Burial will follow the service in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Cushman.

Pallbearers for the service is Caleb Wood, Jimmy McClurg, Roy Skelton, Michael Thompson, Randy Swafford, and Brent Gleghorn.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Rifle Younger, Cam Russell, D J Wood, and Jason Jones.

A time of visitation will be Friday, March 20, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Doty Southside Funeral Service, 2180 Batesville Blvd. In Southside.
