Coby Glenn Melton

Coby Glenn Melton, 97, of Batesville, departed this life on Friday, July 10, 2026, in Southside.  He was born on December 22, 1928, in Cushman to Robert Sherman Melton and Mary Mae Glenn McCance.

Coby served our country faithfully in the military from February 1945 until his retirement on June 1967. His military branch of service included the United States Army Infantry, United States Army Air Corps, United States Air Force, United States Air Force Reserve, United States Navy, and United Navy Reserve of which he retired.  He was of the Pentecostal Faith.

During his lifetime he accomplished many things such as building four houses and one church.  As Mayor of Cushman he was instrumental in seeing that a community center, a post office, and low rent housing were built.  He also made sure the streets were paved for residents in the year 1971. 

Left to cherish him memory is his son, Jimmy Melton, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his daughters, Anna (Earl) Howard, of Batesville and Betty (Gary) Brock, of Batesville; his sister, Kathryn Clouse, of Cushman; his grandchildren, Brad, Johnny, Jimmy 2, Jessica, Jeremy, and Jordan; his great grandchildren, Sebastian, Ethan, and Haley; several nieces; nephews; and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sisters, Ethel Skripko, Faye Cowden, Billie Melton and Bobbie Riley; his brothers, Tommy McCance, A. V. Melton, Jervia Melton, Bob McCance, Maurice McCance, and Travis McCance; several nieces; nephews; and friends.

Graveside service will be Monday, July 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Cushman with Gary Brock officiating.

Pallbearers will be Gary Brock, Jordan Brock, Jeremy Brock, Johnny Howard, and Brad Howard.
