Pleasant Plains

Betty Jean Chrisco Long, 89, of Pleasant Plains, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2023, at Mountain Meadows Nursing Home in Batesville.

Betty was the only child born to the late Delbert Lee Chrisco and Wilma Edna Harris Chrisco on October 21, 1933, in Pleasant Plains. Growing up on a farm, she learned the meaning of hard work at a young age. She worked as a waitress at Kelley’s Restaurant in Batesville. As a lifelong Methodist, Betty taught Sunday School and led the singing at Cornerstone Methodist Church.

On April 28, 1972, Betty married Stephen Long and continued her love of serving people. She hosted many wedding and baby showers and cooked meals and delivered them to families experiencing illness and grief. She crocheted many afghans to give to friends and family. Being a wonderful cook, known for her fried chicken, coconut pies and layered cakes, she hosted many family dinners. Known as the “Avon Lady”, she sold Avon products for forty years and received many awards for her work.  Loving the outdoors, Betty developed a green thumb and grew beautiful flowers.  She also loved to keep the grass mowed and did the mowing herself.  Even though she loved the outdoors, Betty loved to get dressed up, get her make-up on, have her hair done, and match her jewelry to her outfit.  Her love of music and singing the old Methodist hymns continued until her death.  She was a big Vince Gill fan and loved his song, Go, Rest High on That Mountain.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen Long, of the home; daughter, Vicki Lynne Doolin (Bill) of Mountain View; sons, Michael Glen Farrier (Fan), of Batesville, and Dennis Kent Farrier, of Cabot; grandchildren, Deanna Farrier, Matthew Doolin, Sara Jane Lee, Cassie Farrier, Mark Farrier, Grant Doolin, Heath Doolin, and Nick uDoolin; seven great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
